REFEREE NOTES & REMINDERS FOR FALL 2008

  • NEW REFEREES: you must be added to the CYS database before you can report & be paid for games. Complete IRS form W 9 and forward to CYS via fax, email or regular mail. (Form available on CYS web site - www.coyouthsoccer.org)
  • Scheduled game dates for state league are: August 23 & 24; September 6, 13, 20, & 27; October 11, 18, & 25; November 1, 8. & 15. Last date for make up games is November 30, 2008. CONTACT YOUR ASSIGNOR
  • State Cup will be played August 30 & 31 and September 1, (Labor day weekend) at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park and the Gates Soccer complex. On September 7, 14, 21, 28, & October 12 at the Gates Soccer Complex. CONTACT JAN FIELD
  • The CYS Cup (Recreational) will be played October 4 & 5. 2008 in the Metro Denver area. 
  • Referee payments will be mailed on September 24, October 30 & December 5, 2008. (subject to change)
  • When reporting games please remember that SO stands for Sit Out and NOT send off. When a red card is issued in a state league game the pass must be pulled & sent to CYS with a supplemental report.
  • All referees must recertify annually. Visit the state referee web page for clinic information.
  • The complete referee payment policy & rates are published on the CYS  web page.
  • CYS Game Reporting: all referees and assistants must report games within 48 hours of the game date via the CYS Card Site at www.coyouthsoccer.org or automated phone system at 303-346-4421 or 1-800-490-8040. Center referees will be fined $10 per game that is reported late, please visit the CYS web page for a complete copy of the CYS payment policy.

  • If you are unable to make an assignment, you are responsible for finding a replacement.  Please contact the assignor first as she has a handle on who is available.
  • Please check your emails often as that is how referees pick up additional games.
  • Please report to the assignor if any of your fellow referees do not make their assignments.  It is up to all of us to hold each other accountable.
  • Please wear the appropriate referee attire:  referee shirt, referee black socks, and solid black shorts (no white on them).  Professionalism is the first step to earning respect . . . don’t let the opportunity pass you by.  
  • Young center referees --- it is important to use a strong whistle when making your calls.  A strong whistle is the beginning of a strong, confident call.  CONFIDENCE IS KEY!
  • This season we will begin to evaluate referees on the field. Evaluators will be myself and Leiton Powell.  Leiton brings a wealth of experience – 20 years refereeing club and high school, he has instructed and has also been an assigner.
